Installation & Quick Start Guide
for FARMBOOKS USER UPGRADE

This article is for FarmBooks 3.x users wishing to upgrade to FarmBooks 4.0.

1. Backup your FarmBooks database by clicking on File: Backup.

2. Select your Farm Database and click Next.

3. After your backup has completed, click OK and then close out of FarmBooks.

IMPORTANT!! - DETERMINE YOUR CURRENT INSTALLATION LOCATION

Before you begin the upgrade, it is essential that you determine your installation location for your current version of FarmBooks. This step will help avoid any future issues!

To do so, find the FarmBooks icon on your Desktop, right-click it and select Properties.
If the Properties window shows a location for anything other than C:\FarmBooks\, then you will need to uninstall your current version of FarmBooks on your system before installing FarmBooks 4.0. If the location is correct, proceed to Step 4.
Follow these steps to uninstall FarmBooks: 1) Click on your Start button to open your Start Menu. or 2) When the Start Menu opens, click on the Control Panel menu option. 3) When the Control Panel loads double-click (depending on your OS) Add or Remove Programs or Uninstall a program.  or  4) When you Program List loads, select FarmBooks and click (depending on your OS) Remove or Uninstall. 5) After the uninstall has completed, close out of your Program List and your Control Panel and proceed to Step 4 of the FarmBooks 4.0 upgrade below.

4. Insert the FarmBooks 4.0 CD into your computer’s CD or DVD player.

5. The FarmBooks install screen will load.

Tip: If the installation does not start automatically:

• Double-click My Computer on your Desktop.
• Browse to your CD or DVD drive in the left pane of the window (it should now be named FARMBOOKSACCOUNT) and double-click it.
• It the launch screen does not load, double-click the file named AUTORUN.exe to begin the installation.

6. Click on the Upgrade to FarmBooks 4.0 button.

7. Click on the Next button to begin the upgrade.

8. Click on the Next button to continue.

9. Read the terms of the Software License Agreement. If you agree, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.

10. Enter Your Name and Company/Farm Name and then click Next.

11. Confirm the installation location and click Next.

12. Click Install to complete the upgrade.

13. Once the upgrade is completed, click on the Finish button.

14. Go to your Desktop and double-click the FarmBooks icon to open the program.

15. Once FarmBooks is open, click File: Open Farm.

16. The Database Conversion window will appear. Click on the Finish button to convert.

17. Click OK when completed.

18. Click Utilities: Maintain Farm Registrations.

19. When the Maintain Farm Registration window opens, click on your Farm Name and click Edit.

20. The Change Registration Number window will open.

21. Enter your new registration number and click Finish.

22. You are now ready to begin using FarmBooks 4.0.
